Accelerated DBT Program

The Accelerated Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) Program provides group-based comprehensive DBT treatment over several evenings each week for adults who struggle with severe emotion dysregulation and destructive behaviors. Through the utilization of a DBT approach, our program is designed to help adults develop the skills needed to tolerate distress, regulate emotions, improve interpersonal interactions, and increase awareness of and ability to engage in the present moment in order to build a life they experience as worth living. Our goal is to help adults acquire and generalize skills at an accelerated pace, while also preserving the quality and efficacy of their care.

Our Program

The Columbia Accelerated DBT Program is a high-fidelity group-based comprehensive DBT program that includes:

  • DBT Skills Instruction
  • Diary Card Review
  • Targeted Skills Coaching
  • Behavioral Chain Analysis
  • Phone Coaching

Our program is specifically geared toward addressing symptoms of emotional dysregulation. Skills training is presented in a format that is accelerated and comprehensive.

Individuals must attend the program Mondays through Thursdays from 5 to 7pm for a 4-month treatment contract, with a possible option to renew the treatment contract once, for a total of 8 months of treatment. Upon successful completion of the program, the treatment plan generally entails returning to weekly outpatient treatment.

The Accelerated DBT program is an adjunctive group therapy program that is intended to be added to an individual’s current treatment team to provide additional structure and support. Our program requires individuals who are entering the program to have established treatment teams. If an individual needs a therapist or a psychiatrist, we will help you find a provider with either one of our experienced providers or another provider that suits your needs. Once a treatment team is established, the process to enter the program can begin. To learn more about Dialectical Behavioral Therapy, please see our DBT treatment page.
