Laboratory Medicine offers comprehensive clinical laboratory services divided into several major sections: chemistry, hematology, immunology, cytology, microbiology, virology, molecular diagnostics, and the transfusion medicine clinical services (blood bank and apheresis unit).

Academic-oriented and board-certified pathologists and research scientists with extensive expertise and subspecialty interests in all areas of pathology provide comprehensive diagnostic interpretations and consultations. 

Columbia University’s Laboratory of Personalized Genomic Medicine is a state-of-the-art diagnostic laboratory that performs cutting-edge tests in the areas of genetics, oncology, cytogenomics, and molecular microbiology. The laboratory is accredited by CLIA, the College of American Pathologists (CAP) and the Clinical Laboratory Evaluation Program (CLEP) of the New York State Department of Health.

Tests are processed either onsite at our state-of-the-art facilities or at the core facility at NewYork-Presbyterian Hospital under the direction of CUIMC’s Department of Pathology and Cell Biology, a widely recognized leader in the study and diagnosis of diseases for more than one hundred and fifty years. Rapid turnaround of results is delivered electronically into the patients’ electronic medical records for safe, quick, and easy retrieval by their healthcare providers.
