Ptosis

About Ptosis

Drooping of the upper eyelid is called ptosis. In children, it is most often the result of a problem of the eyelid muscle, and they are usually born with it. Occasionally, it is due to nerve injury or neuromuscular weakness and can be helped by treating the underlying cause.

Children with ptosis might also have vision problems caused by amblyopia or blurring associated with astigmatism. Because of the potential threat to eyesight, all children with ptosis should be seen by one of our pediatric ophthalmologists immediately.

Treatments We Offer

Treatment is surgical and can be performed on an outpatient basis. It is possible that the procedure may have to be repeated as the child grows.
