Our team is here to help you make an appointment with the specialists that you need.
Community-Based Care
The Haven Avenue Pediatric Dental Clinic averages approximately 12,000 patient visits each year, serving a desperate need in the community. Compassionate, high-quality oral health care is provided to infants, toddlers, children and adolescents, including those with special health-care needs. Our full and part time faculty also have faculty and/or private practices in the tristate area.
Multidisciplinary Collaborations & Institutional Partnerships
We collaborate with other faculty and services at Morgan Stanley Children’s Hospital (CHONY), including the Craniofacial Team, nasoalveolar molding in cleft lip and palate patients, transplant patients, cardiac, hematology/oncology patients, the Epidermolysis Bullosa Team, and Ectodermal Dysplasia patients. Some patients are treated in the CHONY operating room and in the Pediatric Endoscopy Suite under general anesthesia, based on their medical and/or dental needs.
Besides providing care in our dental clinic under the supervision of licensed pediatric dentists, our pediatric dental residents provide consultation and treatment to patients in the Pediatric Emergency Department and in-patients at CHONY. They also participate in lectures and rotations with medical students.
Orthodontics Services
Orthodontics can improve your child’s smile and oral health. Our specialists in this field now offer the following options.
- Traditional braces. Metal wires and brackets are cemented to the teeth and then gradually tightened to move the teeth into the desired position. There are some food restrictions, and special instructions for keeping them clean.
- Invisalign. This new approach uses clear, removable trays to align the teeth. Patients can take the trays out while eating, or for short periods of time. Invisalign may work in less time than traditional braces. However, your child must be disciplined enough keep the trays in for the required hours each day, and follow basic cleaning instructions.
- Retainer. After either treatment, your child will be fitted with a retainer to prevent the teeth from moving back to their original position. Retainers must be worn continuously for at least six months after treatment, and later, during sleep.
